Casper Ruud and Felix Auger-Aliassime are scheduled to face one another in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Canadian Open on Friday, August 12.
Casper Ruud needed three hours and 19 minutes to beat 14th seed Roberto Bautista Agut and advance to the Canadian Open quarterfinals for the second time in a row. Ruud has been in superb form this season, and his victory on Thursday was his sixth consecutive victory. In his most recent tournament, he won four consecutive matches to win the Gstaad Open. He took the clay court form with him to the hard court in Montreal. Ruud’s season record now stands at 37-13 as a result of the two victories. He has already won three titles, including those in Buenos Aires and Genève, as well as Gstaad. This year, he was also a finalist in Miami.
Ninth in the world Cameron Norrie, the ninth-seeded player, was eliminated by Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Round of 16, and the Frenchman quickly exacted revenge on the British player. In the semifinal match in Los Cabos last week, Norrie defeated the Canadian in three sets. The Canadian, however, completely dictated the terms on Thursday, leaving the lefty with no chance. The victory over Yoshihito Nishioka, who was also a finalist last week and lost to Nick Kyrgios in Washington, came after a straight sets victory over the Los Cabos runner-up in the Round of 16. The Canadian, 22, who had a 3-3 record in Montreal prior to this year, will play in the first quarterfinal of the ATP 1000 competition.
Casper Ruud and Felix Auger-Aliassime are scheduled to face one another in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Canadian Open on Friday, August 12. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 8 till August 15.
