Holger Rune and Alexander Bublik are scheduled to face each other in the quarterfinal of the 2022 ATP Moselle Open September 23.
Bublik needed three sets to defeat Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round in what turned out to be a really competitive match. Alexander Bublik played for two hours and fourteen minutes to defeat Ruusuvuori 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3, and win back-to-back matches for the first time since his time in Newport. Bublik had a chance to serve out the opening set at 5-4, but he missed four of those opportunities before dropping the match in the tiebreaker. And when he dropped a break in the second, it appeared that the end was near. But it wasn’t because Bublik came back to break his opponent once in the second set and twice more in the championship match.
Despite being a seeded player with a first round bye, Holger Rune‘s form was so dismal going into this match that he was given a 7/5 shot at beating Benjamin Bonzi. He didn’t need to worry because the Danish star easily defeated Bonzi 6-4, 4-1 to get to his first quarterfinal since the May French Open. Bonzi retired from the contest, and even without that, Rune appeared to easily defeat his opponent. Rune broke Bonzi once in the opening set and twice in the second before the Frenchman threw in the towel.
