Andrey Rublev and Adrian Mannarino will take on each other in the quarterfinal of the 2022 ATP Astana Open on Friday, October 7.
Andrey Rublev won all four sets he played this week, 6-4 6-3 against Laslo Djere in the opening round and 6-3 6-2 against the inexperienced (on the main tour) Zhizhen Zhang in the second round. The second-ranked Russian has recently achieved some noteworthy feats on indoor hard courts, and ever since he revived his career in the second part of the 2019 season, he has been one of the best players in ATP 500 competitions. He had a stellar 9-1 record on indoor hard courts in 2022 and reached the semifinals in three of the five ATP 500 events he competed in during these ten months, finishing as the champion in Dubai and the semifinalist in Rotterdam.
This week, Adrian Mannarino ended his three-match losing drought on the main tour (0-7 in sets) by defeating former world #3 Stan Wawrinka and #7 David Goffin in back-to-back comeback victories to advance to the quarterfinal in Astana. The seasoned Frenchman’s performance and outcomes this year have been erratic and inconsistently consistent. Between Delray Beach and Rome Masters, he dropped seven straight matches on the main circuit, but he also reached three quarterfinals in February and claimed his second ATP title in Winston Salem two months ago.
Andrey Rublev and Adrian Mannarino are scheduled to face each other in the quarterfinal of the 2022 ATP Astana Open on Friday, October 7. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 3 and end on October 9.
