Defending champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury defeated Hugo Nys and Jan Zielinski in the US Open quarter-finals on Tuesday, winning 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-4 and keeping their bid for back-to-back titles alive. The top-seeded American-British team surrendered four match points at 5-4 in the second set, but Nys and Zielinski rallied to win the tie-break and force a deciding at Louis Armstrong Stadium. Ram and Salisbury, who are chasing a third Grand Slam title this week at Flushing Meadows, responded with a decisive break in the first game of the third set, going on to win in two hours and 34 minutes.
Ram and Salisbury will be facing the team of Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in the last four. The 13th seeded team beat Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara in the quarter-finals by a score of 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. Farah and Cabal hit two aces and recorded three out of five break points in the match.
Ram/Salisbury and Cabal/Farah are scheduled to face each other on Thursday, September 8 in the quarter-final of the 2022 US Open. The fourth and final Grand Slam of the season began on August 29 and will go on until September 11.
