Emma Raducanu and Ludmilla Samsonova will face each other in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Citi Open on Saturday, August 6.

Emma Raducanu needed two hours and 50 minutes to find her way out of trouble and earn a grueling but straight-set win over Camila Osorio in her second round match. Raducanu won 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) in a match that featured eight serve breaks, four for each player. The Brit later admitted that it was one of the most physical matches she had ever played in her career, which was supported by the fact that it was also the longest two-set match on tour this season. She is only in her third quarter final since winning the US Open last year.
Ludmilla Samsonova had lost seven of her previous eight matches before entering this tournament. She has now won two matches in a row to help her season get back on track. Samsonova overcame Tomljanovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in two hours and 18 minutes, coming back from a set down to reach the last eight. The Russian began reasonably well, but when she dropped her serve in the ninth game of the first set and watched Tomljanovic run away with the victory, it appeared that the writing was on the wall. Even more so when her Australian opponent broke her in the first game of the second set.

The 2022 Citi Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 1 and conclude on August 8 this year.
