Paula Badosa, Simona Halep take breezy wins to advance to second round of Roland Garros

Veteran tennis player and 19th seed Simona Halep also made a winning start to her 2022 Roland Garros campaign after a fine win over Germany's Nastasja Mariana Schunk.

Third seed Paula Badosa had a simple day at the office on Tuesday as he beat Fiona Ferro in the first round of the 2022 French Open. The Spaniard will face Slovakia’s Kaja Juvan in the second round on Wednesday. Advancing with her will be veteran tennis player and 19th seed Simona Halep. The Romanian tennis star beat Germany’s Nastasja Mariana Schunk to advance. Ninth seed Danielle Collins also had a rather easy day on court as she breezed past Viktoriya Tomova while eighth seed Karolina Plisikova emerged victorious against Tessah Andrianjafitrimo of France.

Badosa breezes past Ferro

Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa proved why she is regarded one of the best in the sport at the moment as she recorded a dominant victory over unseeded French player Fiona Ferro. The score at the end of the match was 6-2, 6-0 in the third seed’s favour. Badosa smashed five aces in her impeccable victory and recorded a whopping win percentage of 93% on the first serve and 67% on the second. The Spaniard also won five out of her six available break points.

Halep bests Schunk

Veteran tennis player and 19th seed Simona Halep also made a winning start to her 2022 Roland Garros campaign after a fine win over Germany’s Nastasja Mariana Schunk. The score at the end of the tie was 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. Halep scored five aces in the match but also committed a couple of double faults. When it comes to the first and second serves, the Romanian veteran billed 67% and 44% respectively. She also won five out of 10 break points.

Collins’ dominating win

US tennis star Danielle Collins continued her recent run of form with a dominant result over Viktoriya Tomova. The score at the end of the tie read 6-0, 6-4 in the American’s favour. Collins smashed three aces in the match but committed four double faults. On the first serve, her win percentage was 60% and on the second it was 62%. The ninth seed also won six out of 10 break points.

Plisikova advances

Eighth seed Karolina Plisikova recorded a fine victory against Tessah Andrianjafitrimo to advance to the second round of Roland Garros. The Czech hit four aces but also committed six double faults. Andrianjafitrimo had committed seven. On the first serve, Plisikova earned a 66% win percentage but it dropped on the second with just 41%. Andrianjafitrimo had a higher percentage on the second serve with 50%. Plisikova scored seven out of 14 break points while her opponent managed five.
