Top seed Pablo Carreno entered the Andalucia Open final after beating fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos Vinolas in a tightly-fought semifinal. The World No.15 reached his first ATP final since 2019, defeating Ramos Vinolas 6-1, 3-6, 7-6. The Spaniard will next meet first-time ATP Tour finalist Jaume Munar in the summit clash. Munar had survived an exhausting battle against 17-year-old Carlos Alcaraz 7-6, 6-4 in the other semifinal.

Earlier, Busta had it pretty easy in the first set, but Ramos Vinolas found his footing in the second set to win it 6-3. Ramos-Vinolas was cruising in the decider, serving for the match at 5-4. But Carreno Busta came back to level the score at 5-5 before winning match in a tie-breaker.

“It was so close. I don’t know what happened in the second set,” Carreno Busta said in an on-court interview. “At the beginning of the match, I was very focussed on my game and being aggressive. After that, Albert of course started to push [back] more and [I] started to lose my level a little bit.”

“I just kept fighting all the time, and I want to thank everyone [in the crowd] for their support. This is what we missed last year, the crowd. It’s very important to play these kinds of very close matches with a crowd like this.”

Sonego in Sardegna Open final

Lorenzo Sonego prevailed over Taylor Fritz 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 and set up a Sardegna Open final clash against Laslo Djere of Serbia. Sonego is now one step away from becoming the first Italian in 15 years to win an ATP tour clay court title on home soil.

Sonego was racing to victory after winning the first set and leading the second 3-0. Fritz impressively came back to win the second set 7-5, taking the match to a decider. But, Sonego refocused and won the final set 6-1 to enter the final. In the other semifinal, Djere defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-2, 6-0.
