Jelena Ostapenko and Alison Riske are scheduled to face one another in the round of 32 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Wednesday, August 10.
Jelena Ostapenko breezed past Anhelina Kalinina in the first round on Monday in just 73 minutes. The World No. 16 saved three break points in the seventh game of the first set before clinching the first set with the only break in the tenth. The Latvian took a 3-0 lead in the second game, but her lead was erased when the Ukrainian came back and won two games in a row. But Ostapenko regained control of the match by breaking again and then winning the final three games in a row. The 25-year-old Latvian has been in excellent form this season, and her season record now stands at 26-12.
35th in the world On Monday, Alison Riske defeated 2012 champion Petra Kvitova in the first round. Riske dominated the first and third sets, facing no break points and breaking the Czech twice in each to win the one-hour and 56-minute match 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. While the first and third sets were one-sided, the second set was highly competitive, with Kvitova fighting hard. She was broken three times, but she also broke Riske’s serve four times to take the set. However, that was insufficient for the World No. 23. Riske has made significant progress in the last two years. She reached her 12th and 13th career finals this year in Adelaide-2 and NottinghamÂ
