Naomi Osaka won her first match back on a hard court in San Jose against Qinwen Zheng, but Cori Gauff defeated her in straight sets in the next round. Questions about Osaka’s chances at the US Open would have been raised when she was forced to quit her match against Kaia Kanepi in Toronto’s opening round after falling behind a set and 3-0. The good news is that she will return the very next week when she competes in Cincinnati’s opening round. But she does have a big advantage over her Chinese opponent right away. However, their most recent game was in 2018.

Shui Zhang has only ever won one match in the main draw of this competition since making her debut at the Cincinnati Open in 2011, and that win occurred way back in 2014. Since then, there have been two opening losses and one qualifier loss. This year has been interesting for Zhang in terms of hard court competitions. While she has won a championship indoors, she has only had seven other victories and nine losses outside. In the second round of the Canadian Open last week, Simona Halep defeated Zhang after she had won the first match.

Naomi Osaka and Shuai Zhang are scheduled to face one another in the Opening round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Monday, August 15. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 14 till August 21.

2022 Cincinnati Open schedule

The 2022 Cincinnati Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 14 and conclude on August 21 this year.
