On Saturday night, Nick Kyrgios was in the news for all the wrong reasons despite winning his Wimbledon match against Stefanos Tsitsipas. As he advanced to the competition’s last 16 round, the Aussie received criticism for his antics during his exciting Wimbledon victory over Tsitsipas. Kyrgios won the match in four sets 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 but that wasn’t without debate, though. Tsitsipas said that his Wimbledon opponent was “evil” and behaved like a “bully” during the match, showing that the outspoken Australian had mixed feelings about him.

‘Very evil side to him’

“He has a very evil side to him, which if it’s exposed it really can do a lot of harm and bad to the people around him. He bullies the opponent. He was probably a bully at school himself. I don’t like bullies. I don’t like people that put other people down,” Tsitsipas stated following the contest in his post-game press conference.

“He has some good traits in his character, the handshake part, ‘well deserved, well done for the great match’, for sure, I need to congratulate my opponent. It’s a thing I have been doing my entire life. I have never finished the match and not given my hand to the opponent simply because of his performance. But attitude-wise, if there was a handshake for that, I would definitely be walking away from it, and that’s how it is. It’s not acceptable in any way,” said Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas’ remark, though, is unlikely to affect Kyrgios as he prepares for a last-16 match against American Brandon Nakashima. As his encounter against the Greek rocked the tennis world, Kyrgios was at his absolute best on the court. The tense third-round Wimbledon battle was won by Kyrgios in four sets, and midway through the match, he stopped agreeing to play because he wanted Tsitsipas to be defaulted for slamming a ball into the spectators.

However despite for the remarks from Tsitsipas, the Aussie was not happy while accusing the fourth seed for the been too soft. ” That is not nice,” said Kyrgios. “Am I trying to be nice? I most likely wouldn’t have come in here and said I got bullied. I said nice shot. Now it’s getting out of hand. It wasn’t an easy shot. I hit a good serve and I saw him working on his backhand return yesterday and he hit the back fence, so I said good shot,” he added.

Fantastic atmosphere

Despite all this Kyrgios loved the atmosphere and crowd , he knew he was favourite before the match. “Hell of an atmosphere and an amazing much. I honestly felt like the favorite coming [into this match]. I played him a couple of weeks ago but I knew that it was going to be a tough match. He’s a hell of a player. I had my own tactics out there and he knows how to play me, he’s met me once and obviously, I’ve had success,” the Aussie concluded.
