After a hard fought victory in the first round, fifth seed Brandon Nakashima will gear up to face compatriot Denis Kudla in the second round of the 2022 San Diego Open. Nakashima faced Zachary Svajda in the first round and recorded a 7-6, 7-6 (7-5) victory. The fifth seed hit five aces in the match and recorded win percentages of 73% and 58% on the first and second serves respectively. He also converted four out of seven break points and won nine service games to seal the deal. Before the San Diego Open, Nakashima had taken part in the US Open where he was beaten in the third round after an epic match by Jannik Sinner 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2.

Denis Kudla got the better of Fernando Verdasco in the first round of the San Diego Open 6-3, 6-3. The American hit four aces and recorded win percentages of 64% and 56% on the first and second serves respectively. Kudla also converted five out of seven break points and won seven service games. Ahead of the competition, Kudla had displayed a fine performance in the Cary Challenger where he went as far as the semi-finals.

Brandon Nakashima and Denis Kudla are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 ATP San Diego Open on Friday, September 23. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 20 and end on September 26.
