The Spaniard has already won the Australian Open and the French Open this season and his eyes will be set on winning a third consecutive Grand Slam.
Rafael Nadal’s 2022 Wimbledon campaign rolled on as the Spaniard recorded a second-round victory over Ricardas Berkanis on Thursday. The match was done in four sets with the score-line at the end reading 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. The Spaniard has already won the Australian Open and the French Open this season and his eyes will be set on winning a third consecutive Grand Slam. In the first round, Nadal got the better of Arrgentina’s Francisco Cerundolo. He will now face 27th seed Lorenzo Sonego in the third round.
Sonego has had an impressive Wimbledon campaign so far by his standards as the Italian overcame a couple of tricky tests in the form of Denis Kudla and Hugo Gaston. Against the latter, Sonego scored six aces and converted three out of 13 break points to win the match 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, 6-4. The Italian also managed to win 15 service games.
Nadal and Sonego are scheduled to face each other on Saturday, July 2 in the third round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championships is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There were a number of exciting matches on July 2 as the likes of Nadal, Tsitsipas, Kyrgios and others will be in action.
