Lorenzo Musetti and Mackenzie McDonald will face each other in the quarterfinal of the 2022 ATP Firenze Open October 14.
Lorenzo Musetti defeated Bernabe Zapata Miralles in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, serving a bagel for the first time this year. Due to his #3 seed and first-round bye, it was the Italian’s first match of the season. Prior to this week, the gifted Italian had previously had a first-round bye on the main tour three times in his career, but he was only able to record one victory in each of those contests, which took place in Metz (R2) 2022, Winston Salem (R2) 2022, and Pune (QF) 2022.
To advance to the quarterfinals in Florence, Mackenzie McDonald defeated the inexperienced Francesco Passaro in straight sets, 6-4 7-5. He faced a considerably tougher test in the first round and defeated fellow countryman Jenson Brooksby, 6-4 4-6 6-1, in three sets. Since the start of the 2021 season, the American has only won a small number of second-round matches (7-23 in R2), and his most recent such victory also came against a player outside the top-100, Shintaro Mochizuki, in Seoul, where he lost from a set up against Aleksandar Kovacevic in the quarterfinal.
Lorenzo Musetti and Mackenzie McDonald are scheduled to face each other in the quarterfinal of the 2022 ATP Firenze Open on Friday, October 14. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 10 and end on October 16.
The ATP Firenze Open 2022 will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 10, 2022 and conclude on October 16, 2022.
