Lorenzo Musetti and Marc-Andrea Huesler are scheduled to face each other in the semifinals of the 2022 ATP Sofia Open on Saturday, October 1.
Lorenzo Musetti has canceled his participation in the Astana Open next week, and I’m pretty sure it’s because he expects to play on Sunday. The final is scheduled for that day, and Musetti is heavily favored to advance to that stage of the competition. All of his victories have been impressive, but his performance against Jan-Lennard Struff has been outstanding. He completely destroyed the German’s game, not allowing him to do anything. It appears that the Italian is finally figuring things out, as evidenced by his superb win over Carlos Alcaraz in Hamburg. He’s serving well and playing well from the baseline. The returns are working extremely well, and he is clearly confident in his abilities.
Marc-Andrea Huesler hasn’t had many chances to play in finals, and his only ATP title is in doubles. It did occur this year, so there’s that. Because of his height and powerful serve, the Swiss player is a natural fit indoors. It’s his primary weapon, and when it’s working, it’s extremely difficult to counter. That aggressive serving style carries over to other aspects of his game, and he prefers to attack with full force. He’ll almost certainly bring that same playstyle to this matchup, and Musetti will struggle. Nonetheless, the Swiss player demonstrated his vulnerability. He has passed all previous tests, but this will be the most difficult.
