Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka are scheduled to face one another in the Opening round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Monday, August 15.
Andy Murray appeared to have found his rhythm this season, but he has struggled to get going in the last three matches. Murray lost to Alexander Bublik in the quarterfinals of the Newport Open on grass, followed by a shock defeat to Mikael Ymer in the first round of the Washington Open. Murray then proved no match for Taylor Fritz at the Canadian Open last week in Montreal. There have been 21 previous matches between these two players, with Murray holding a 12-9 head-to-head advantage. Murray may not be in top form, but he will be favored to beat Wawrinka in the first round.
Stan Wawrinka‘s rhythm hasn’t quite returned since the pandemic halted play for a few months. Fitness has obviously played a role, but he has continued to struggle to win, and facing Murray may not make matters any easier. Wawrinka last won a match in the Queen’s Club competition, where he defeated Frances Tiafoe in three hard-fought sets in the first round. He has now lost four games in a row. This includes a first-round loss to Emil Ruusuvuori in Montreal last week, his first hard court competition since March 2021. They last met at the 2020 French Open, which Wawrinka won in straight sets.
Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka are scheduled to face one another in the Opening round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Monday, August 15. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 14 till August 21.
