British tennis legend Andy Murray will take on Alex de Minaur in his first match of the 2022 Laver Cup. Murray had a decent performance at the 2022 US Open where he beat Francisco Cerundolo 7-5, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round and Emilio Nava 5-6, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 in the second. He was then up against 13th seed Matteo Berrettini in the third round, a test that proved to be a bit too tough for the former world no. 1. Murray put up a good fight but eventually fell to the Italian 4-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 3-6 and exited the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season.
Alex de Minaur had a decent showing at the US Open this season as he too reached the third round of the Grand Slam. The Aussie beat Filip Krajinovic 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 in the first round and Cristian Garin 6-3, 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 in the second. The third round saw de Minaur face 12th seed Pablo Carreno Busta. The Spaniard managed to win the match 6-1, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) to dump di Minaur out of the Grand Slam.
