Apart from the four Grand Slams, the Monte Carlo Masters is arguably one of the most prestigious men's tennis competitions in the world today.
One of the most significant events on the tennis calendar, the Monte Carlo Masters, is right around the corner. The ATP 1000 tournament was first played in 1897 and will have its 125th anniversary in 2022. It is safe to say that apart from the four Grand Slams, the Monte Carlo Masters is arguably one of the most prestigious men’s tennis competitions in the world today. The matches of the tournament are played on clay courts and the most successful player in the competition’s history is none other than the King of Clay himself, Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard has played 12 finals and won 11 Monte Carlo Masters titles, which, in itself, is a ridiculous statistic. Unfortunately, Nadal has withdrawn from the 2022 edition of the tournament after suffering a rib injury in the final of the 2022 Indian Wells in March.
Currently, the reigning champion of Monte Carlo is Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas. The 23-year-old had recorded a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 victory against Russia’s Andrey Rublev to win the title. He will be looking to repeat the same feat but things are never easy when it comes to this particular competition. Since it is one of the biggest ATP events on the calendar, Monte Carlo sees the absolute greats of tennis every single year. This year will be no exception.
