After a 22-year absence, the event at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City was reinstated to the calendar in 2015 and has since become a beloved mainstay, just missing 2020 due to COVID-19. It was revealed that F1 had reached fresh agreements with the government of Mexico City and the local promoters CIE to keep the race on the calendar until 2025 ahead of F1’s sixth visit in the current era, which is expected to draw 350,000 spectators over the course of the race weekend. The arrangement for the Mexico Grand Prix, which was set to expire in 2023, has been extended for a further two years, Formula One president Steffano Domenicali, Alejandro Soberón, head of CIE, and Claudia Scheibam announced.

This indicates that after its reinstatement in 2015, Mexico’s tenure on the calendar will last for a total of at least 10 years. Prior to a 23-year break, it had previously been scheduled for the 1960s at the Magdalena Mixhuca circuit and between 1986 and 1992 at the current location, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez. “I am very pleased to announce that Formula 1 will continue to race in Mexico City for another three years under this new agreement,” stated F1 CEO and president Stefano Domenicali. “Every year the race attracts a large number of passionate fans, and the atmosphere is incredible, and I know everyone will be excited by this news. “I want to thank Claudia Sheinbaum, the Head of Government for Mexico City, and Alejandro Soberon and his team for their ongoing commitment to Formula 1 and the continued success of the event.”

Perez eyeing for first Mexican win

This upcoming weekend, Sergio “Checo” Pérez, who recently helped Red Bull Racing win the 2022 Constructors’ championship, will be the main attraction as he attempts to become the first Mexican driver to win a domestic Grand Prix: “I’m so excited that we can bring this fantastic occasion, this enormous party, to Mexico so we can demonstrate what it signifies for our nation. I’m pleased that we will be able to hold the event for a few more years. I’m hoping we have a great weekend and everything works out for us. At Hermanos Rodriguez last year, teammate Max Verstappen won, and Pérez came in third. Verstappen went on to win the Drivers’ championship, which he successfully defended this year. With three victories at the Mexican Grand Prix, Verstappen shares the record for most victories with Scottish driver Jim Clark.
