Daniil Medvedev, the tournament’s top seed, advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Italian Jannik Sinner in straight sets on Friday. Medvedev has had a perfect week, not dropping a set in the three matches leading up to the semifinal. In fact, he has only faced one breakpoint in three matches, which he saved against Dominic Thiem in the second round. Neither Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round nor Sinner in the quarters were able to create a breakpoint against the world number four. He was equally impressive in the second set, breaking Sinner twice and winning 6-4, 6-2.

Dimitrov hit 11 aces and 37 winners in the match, while his opponent hit 5 aces and 16 winners.
