Marin Cilic has been a steady presence on the ATP Tour circuit since he turned professional in 2005. And Cilic has achieved quite a bit in his career.

From 2008-18, he made it a point to win at least one title a year. His maiden ATP event win came at New Haven in 2008.

Then in 2009, he won two titles – the Chennai Open and the ATP 250 event at Zagreb, Croatia. He would retain his Chennai crown the following year before doing the same at Zagreb.

Thus, by 2010, he had already won five titles in as many years of being a pro.

He would go on to win 14 more titles including the 2014 US Open. Till date, that remains his only win in a Grand Slam final.

Granted, he’s only won the one Grand Slam but his overall record is pretty good. After all, a total of 20 titles and being consistently in and around the top parts of the rankings is no mean feat.

In fact, in his career, he has reached the quarterfinals of all the four major Grand Slam events. But not just that – he’s also reached the last 8 of all the nine ATP Masters 1000 events as well.

Given his status as one of the sport’s most consistent players, it is thus no surprise that he has mixed it up among the best of the best.

Thus, here we are going to look at his rivalries and his head-to-head record against a number of notable players on the tour.

Marin Cilic vs Roger Federer

Cilic has faced off against the Swiss maestro many a times in his career. However, in all but one of those occasions, it was FedEx who prevailed over the Croat.

That being said, the one time Cilic beat Federer was in the semis of the 2014 US Open – a Grand Slam he would go on to win!

Another match that has taken place many times over the last few years; indeed, Djokovic and Cilic have met on 20 seperate occasions.

But only two of those matches have gone Cilic’s way – one at Queens in 2018 and one in the 2016 Paris Masters. Otherwise it’s been Djokovic all the way.
