Magda Linette, who also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Cleveland Open, reached yet another match of the final eight. This will be her fifth appearance of this kind this season, and it will likely be the simplest one yet. Linette has only lost six games in the first two rounds of play in Chennai, and she bageled both of her opponents in one of the sets. After reaching that point in Prague as well, Linette easily defeated Selekhmeteva 6-2, 6-0.Â
Rebecca Marino has won 31 and lost 11 matches in hard court competitions across all levels of tennis, including the ITF circuit and WTA qualifiers. This includes her two wins in this tournament, where Marino has won back-to-back straight-set victories. Marino advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Anna Blinkova 7-5, 6-2 in the first round. She then defeated Katarzyna Kawa in the second round to reach the final eight. Marino won 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the round of 16 for the third time in a row, the Canadian winning three consecutive tournaments. Marino has risen more than 70 places since her lowest ranking this year.
