Magda Linette won earlier in the competition over Japanese Moyuka Uchijima (6-4, 6-0), Russian Oksana Selekhmeteva (6-2, 6-0), and Canadian Rebecca Marino, the No. 7 seed (7-6 (10), 6-3).

Linda Fruhvirtova of Czech Republic fought from a set down to defeat Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in Saturday’s singles semifinal of the Chennai Open WTA 250 tennis competition. The 17-year-old, who is ranked 130 in the world, won in 2 hours and 53 minutes to advance to her first WTA Tour final. Fruhvirtova hit some great strokes off both flanks to win critical points and deny Podoroska a final spot in a closely contested deciding set.
