Nick Kyrgios and Kamil Majchrzak will take on each other in the round of 16 of the 2022 ATP Japan Open on Thursday, October 6.
Nick Kyrgios defeated the talented but inexperienced Chun Hsin Tseng in straight sets to increase his outstanding unbeaten streak in first-round matches this year to 13 competitions. In two sets, 6-3 and 6-1, he lost only four points on his first serves while winning nearly twice as many as the Taiwanese. The Australian has had one of his most significant seasons to date since he has not only disproved his detractors but also reminded himself of his own ability. He became more motivated to do well in slams after reaching the Wimbledon final a few months earlier, and he achieved this by defeating the defending champion Daniil Medvedev at the US Open.
In his first-ever main-draw match in the Asian swing, Kamil Majchrzak overcame some challenges in the early going against qualifier Sho Shimabukuro. He was unfortunate to have to withdraw from the first round after successfully qualifying for the main draw in Chengdu in 2019. The 26-year-old defeated eventual champion Marc-Andrea Huesler last week on the indoor hard courts in Sofia, ending his poor run of form across all levels, and posting his first quarterfinal finish since May (2022). (in QF).
