Nick Kyrgios and Karen Khachanov are scheduled to face each other on Tuesday, September 6 in the quarter-final of the 2022 US Open.
Life on court hasn’t been the same since Daniil Medvedev’s loss in the Australian Open final earlier this year, and with Nyck Kyrgios taking to the sport like a duck to water, things were bound to get interesting in their fourth round meeting. For a while, they did. Both players exchanged service breaks to force the first set into a tie-breaker, which Kyrgios won on the fourth point. Nothing of the sort happened, as Kyrgios broke Medvedev three times in the two sets that followed, but faced only one break-point, which he easily saved.
Karen Khachanov was given 9/5 odds to win his fourth round match against the in-form Pablo Carreno-Busta, but he beat him in five sets in three hours and 23 minutes. In a match in which Khachanov faced only two break-points and was broken both times, he retaliated with five breaks of his own to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 and advance to his first US Open quarterfinal. Earlier in the tournament, Khachanov defeated Denis Kudla, Thiago Monteiro, and an injured Jack Draper, but he will have to do a lot more of what he did against Carreno-Busta against Kyrgios.
Nick Kyrgios and Karen Khachanov are scheduled to face each other on Tuesday, September 6 in the quarter-final of the 2022 US Open. The fourth and final Grand Slam of the season began on August 29 and will go on until September 11.
