Nick Kyrgios is in the kind of form that suggests he could easily have been a top-10 player, and  with his current form, it won’t be long before he achieves that goal. In the second round here, he provided yet another reason to suggest the aforementioned, as the Australian defeated world number one Daniil Medvedev. Kyrgios defeated his Russian opponent 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the third round. This is his joint-best finish in Canada. Nick Kyrgios faced only two break-points in the entire match, and he saved both of them with ease. Kyrgios now has 15 wins from his previous 16 matches, with Novak Djokovic being the only player to defeat him.

Those were two difficult sets, and de Minaur took his time, but he eventually defeated Grigor Dimitrov in the second round of this competition. De Minaur defeated Dimitrov by a similar score. In two hours and four minutes, he won 7-6 (4), 7-5. The first set was served, with neither player giving the other any break-point opportunities. De Minaur won the tie-breaker but then lost his serve in the first game of the second set. The Australian leveled the score at 1-1, and both players saved a few break points before de Minaur broke Dimitrov in the 12th game of the set as he served to stay in the match.
