Veronika Kudermetova and Alize Cornet are scheduled to face each other in the semi finals of the WTA Jasmin Open 2022 on October 8.
Veronika Kudermetova delivered another dominant performance to advance to the Jasmin Open semifinals. The World No. 12 lost serve in the first game of her quarterfinal against Diane Parry on Friday, but recovered quickly and never looked back, defeating the Frenchwoman 6-4, 6-1 in an hour and 29 minutes. Kudermetova had started her campaign with a first-round 6-1, 6-0 thrashing of Varvara Gracheva. She did drop a few games in the second round, but she dominated Magdalena Frech in a 6-3, 6-4 victory. The 2021 Charleston champion is attempting to reach her fourth season final. This year, she finished second in Melbourne, Dubai, and Istanbul.
Alize Cornet also won her third consecutive match without dropping a set, but her quarterfinal against Tamara Zidansek was far more difficult than the first two rounds. In a match where both sets lasted more than 60 minutes, the World No. 37 needed two hours and 22 minutes to defeat the Slovenian. Cornet defeated Brazil’s Laura Pigossi in the first round 7-6 (7-3), 6-0, and Harriet Dart in the second round 6-3, 6-4. The 32-year-old will compete in her third semi final of the season, having lost in the final four stage in Bad Homburg and Cleveland. But it won’t be easy for Cornet because Kudermetova has been very consistent all season.
