Jason Kubler reached a significant life milestone this week in Newport, just a few days after missing out on his first-ever quarterfinal appearance on the main tour at Wimbledon. The Australian, who was playing in his first competition, beat fellow countryman Jordan Thompson before defeating Felix Auger Aliassime to advance to the quarterfinals with the biggest victory of his career. The 29-year-best old’s week of his career at Wimbledon a few days ago gave him a lot of confidence. He qualified as a qualifier and went on to win six straight matches, including victories against players like Dan Evans and Jack Sock, before being easily defeated by Taylor Fritz in the match for a quarterfinal spot.

This week, James Duckworth defeated Liam Broady and Quentin Halys in straight sets to raise his ATP Newport record to 2-3. Between 2012 and 2018, he participated three times here but left the event without picking up a victory. Before competing at ATP Newport earlier this week, the 30-year-old Australian had failed to claim a main-draw victory in tour-level competition this year. He had an injury earlier this year while on the Australian tour and was sidelined for several months.
