Anett Kontaveit has had a mediocre year in 2022 due to serious form issues caused by long Covid. Xiyu Wang will begin her Tallinn Open campaign with a record of 38-21 and a career-best singles ranking of #58. It’s impressive considering she started the year outside the top 130. Three ITF finals and a runner-up finish in the Valencia Challenger are among her career highlights. The 21-year-old has picked up the pace beautifully in recent weeks, beginning with a semifinal run in the Citi Open (as a qualifier) and continuing with a quarterfinal finish in Granby and a round three appearance in the US Open. Wang defeated some well-known names in these events, including Victoria Azarenka, Tatjana Maria, Donna Vekic, and Maria Sakkari.
