Anett Kontaveit will face American tennis player Bernarda Pera in the first round of the competition to get her campaign underway.
Second seed Anett Kontaveit is quite a distance from world no. 1 Iga Switek when it comes to international rankings but the Estonian will be hopeful of making a lasting impact at The Championships. Kontaveit will face American tennis player Bernarda Pera in the first round of the competition to get her campaign underway. The Estonian’s 2022 season has been anything but positive so far. Given her high standards, she has failed to put in a positive performance in the recent past. At the French Open, where she was seeded fifth, the Estonian was ousted in the very first round by unseeded Australian player Ajla Tomljanovic.
Her opponent, Pera has put in any exceptional performance so far this season either. The American was eliminated in the first round of Roland Garros after a 6-2, 6-1 defeat against Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann. She then participated in the WTA 125K Makarska where she exited in the round of 32 after losing to Anstasia Potapova.
Kontaveit and Pera are scheduled to face each other on Monday, June 27 in the first round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championships is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There are a number of exciting matches on opening day as the likes of Swiatek, Badosa, Sakkari, Raducanu, Halep and others will be in action.
