Anett Kontaveit, an Estonian player who is 26 years old, has had a remarkable season. She won two singles finals (St. Petersburg and Doha) to become the new World No. 2. Later, she was diagnosed with Covid-19, which may have affected her form and kept her out of the game for a short spell. She also broke off her relationship with longtime coach Dmitry Tursunov, citing the Russian’s visa issues as a factor in her touring challenges. Anett is now, however, back in her rightful place. Her 16th career final is also her 10th in the last 18 months. Just in time for the US Open swing, this 250 tournament in Hamburg has been a useful practice run for her to restore her flow. Kontaveit eliminated Irina Bara, Rebecca Peterson, Andrea Petkovic, and Anastasia Potapova to advance to the final without dropping a set. Additionally, she increased her score to 21-9.
If there is anyone who can compete with Anett Kontaveit, it’s Bernarda Pera. The American, who is 27 years old, has won 10 straight matches and will play in her second WTA final in as many weeks. Despite being a professional since 2014, Pera didn’t begin to establish herself until last week. She qualified for Budapest and won the title there by going 7 matches without dropping a set. In the last stages, she defeated opponents like Anna Bondar and Aleksandra Krunic to win her maiden trophy. Her best performance up to that point in the season had been finishing second at the Karlsruhe Challenger and making it all the way to round two at the Australian Open. By defeating Maryna Zanevska, Elena-Gabriela Ruse, Joanne Zuger, and Katerina Siniakova in Hamburg, Bernarda has done well to maintain the same pace.
Anett Kontaveit and Bernarda Pera will take on each other on Saturday, July 23 in the final round of the 2022 WTA Hamburg European Open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 17 and conclude on July 23 this year.

The 2022 Hamburg European Open will have five rounds of play both for the ATP and WTA competitors. These are the first round, second round, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The tournament is scheduled to be held from July 18 to July 24, but the qualifiers will commence from July 16 for both the men’s and women’s categories.
