On Thursday, the Russian Karen Khachanov will take on the Italian Fabio Fognini in the second round of the 2022 ATP Hamburg Open.
You may not necessarily want to play Jan-Lennard Struff in Germany. When his serve is on, as it was early in the match against Karen Khachanov, the German can be a very dangerous player. Even yet, the Russian was able to recover and triumph in that game. Khachanov lost a break advantage in the final set but came back to win in the tiebreak, so it wasn’t simple. He also managed to save a match point. He had a year of strong performances, and this was simply another one. He played arguably of his best tennis overall in 2022, but things are still not quite where they should be. He frequently issues with consistency. He occasionally plays pretty well, but he just can’t play a full match from beginning to end. Overall, 23-16 is a pretty strong record, and 8-6 on clay is also commendable.
Finally, Fabio Fognini triumphed in a match, but only after a difficult struggle with Aljaz Bedene. The Italian is experiencing an odd season where his performance is passable yet he is still losing games. His performance on the court suggests that his dedication to tennis may not be as strong as it once was. Sometimes he checks out of matches, losing control. The same thing happened to Bedene. Fognini won the first set, but he dropped the second set by not playing as intently as he could have. The Slovene player performed well in the decisive set, but Fognini eventually regained composure and played the match-winning tennis. Although Bastad from previous week was disappointing, the fact that he drew Sebastian Baez early made things impossible to overcome.
Karen Khachanov and Fabio Fognini will take on each other on Thursday, July 21 in the second round of the 2022 ATP Hamburg European open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 18 and conclude on July 24 this year.
