Daria Kasatkina was eliminated in the very first round of the US Open earlier this year by an unseeded Harriet Dart.
If there is anyone who is desperate for some good fortune and form, it is Russian tennis player Daria Kasatkina. The eighth seed will begin her 2022 WTA San Diego Open campaign against Canada’s Leylah Fernandez. Kasatkina was eliminated in the very first round of the US Open earlier this year by an unseeded Harriet Dart. After the Grand Slam, the Russian took part in the Ostrava Open where she got off to a good start after beating Emma Raducanu 7-5, 6-4 in the first round. However, she could not capitalize on her start as she was defeated in the second round 1-6, 6-7 (1-7) by Ekaterina Alexandrova.
20-year-old Leylah Fernandez will play in her first competition since the US Open at San Diego. The Canadian defeated Oceane Dodin in the first round of the Grand Slam 6-3, 6-4 but the second round was as far as she went. Fernandez was up against Liudmila Samsonova in the second round and was defeated 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
Daria Kasatkina and Leylah Fernandez are scheduled to face each other in the first round of the 2022 WTA San Diego Open on Tuesday, October 11. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 10, 2022 and conclude on October 16, 2022.
The WTA San Diego Open will have five rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The competition’s main draw is set to commence on October 10, 2022 and conclude on October 16, 2022.
