When they compete in the 2022 WTA Cincinnati Open on Monday, Russian Daria Kasatkina, the number nine player in the world, will encounter difficult competition in the form of Amanda Anisimova, who is rated number 22.
In the San Jose Open final, Daria Kasatkina defeated Shelby Rogers to win the championship there earlier this month in what ended up being her greatest performance of the season. She had won her first match of the year, propelling the Russian to a career-high position of ninth in the world. Prior to her comeback triumph over Rogers in the championship match, Kasatkina had also defeated Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, and Paula Badosa on her way to the title. At the Canadian Open, what happened next was that an extremely worn-out Kasatkina lost to Bianca Andreescu just two days after falling in the tournament’s opening round. Kasatkina will hope she can start things off in Cincinnati on a strong note now that she is rested and returning after a break of over a week, but she will face a pretty difficult opponent initially.
While Amanda Anisimova hasn’t been able to add to her collection of titles since winning one in Melbourne in January, her performances have generally been quite reliable. So much so that the American ranks 15th on the list of top players in the Race to the Finals despite having won 32 of the 45 matches she has played so far this season. Anisimova started off strong in the San Jose Open by defeating Karolina Pliskova, but she lost to Shelby Rogers in the quarterfinals and then to Pliskova in the second round at Toronto. Anisimova now faces a player that is third on that very top players of the season ranking, making this a competitive match despite her strong win-loss record.
Daria Kasatkina and Amanda Anisimova are scheduled to face one another in the Opening round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Monday, August 15. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 14 till August 21.
The 2022 Cincinnati Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 14 and conclude on August 21 this year.
