After her stunning victory at the Silicon Valley Classic last week, 12th seed Daria Kasatkina will be setting her eyes on the Canadian Open crown. Kasatkina had a lackluster season for the most part in 2022 but her victory at Silicon Valley was just the boost she needed. The Russian defeated a spirited Shelby Rogers in the final by a score of 6-7 (2-7), 6-1, 6-2. Kasatkina had reached the semi-final of the French Open earlier and since then, she has been making consistent quarter-final entries in whatever competition she participates. Her win at Silicon Valley was certainly a sign that things were only going to get better.
Bianca Andreescu has had recent history with Kasatkina. The pair faced off in the quarter-final of the Bad Homburg Open earlier this year and the Canadian emerged victorious by a dominant 6-4, 6-1 score-line. At her home WTA 1000 event, Andreescu will be hoping to repeat the same result and eventually go on to win the crown.
Daria Kasatkina and Bianca Andreescu are scheduled to face one another in the round of 64 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Tuesday, August 9. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 8 till August 15.
