Ryan Peniston and Nicolas Jarry will face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Korea Open on Tuesday, September 27.
When Ryan Peniston had consecutive quarterfinal finishes at the Surbiton Challenger and Nottingham Challenger a few months ago, along with later reaching that stage in ATP events in London and Eastbourne, where he earned some memorable victories over Casper Ruud and Holger Rune, he had a dream time at home during the grass swing. After a tremendously successful grass swing, his performance level declined, and he hasn’t participated in a tour-level main-draw event since Wimbledon (R2). Even worse, he was defeated by Tung-lin Wu in the last round of qualifying in Seoul this week, so he was in need of a lucky-loser ticket in the main draw.
While competing in the qualifying rounds over the weekend, Nicolas Jarry defeated Tatsuma Ito and Aleksandar Kovacevic in straight sets. Kovacevic, who entered as a lucky loser, has already advanced to this week’s second round. The powerful Chilean has a 1-5 record in first-round matches on the main tour this season, with just one of those matches taking place on hard courts—a straight-sets loss to Matteo Berrettini at the US Open.
Ryan Peniston and Nicolas Jarry are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Korea Open on Tuesday, September 27. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 24 and end on October 2.
