Ons Jabeur and Ajla Tomljanovic are scheduled to face one another in the quarter-final of the US Open 2022 on Tuesday, September 6.
Ons Jabeur, who had never made it to the fourth round of the US Open before this year, appeared to have found her stride at this tournament after a poor run of form in the lead-up. She had struggled to get going in the three US Open Series tournaments she had competed in, and coming into the US Open, Jabeur had some concerns about her mental state following her Wimbledon final loss to Elena Rybakina. Jabeur has dispelled them, and in what manner. Following a couple of easy opponents, the Tunisian turned the tables on Shelby Rogers in the third round after dropping the first set. Following that, she defeated a tenacious Veronika Kudermetova 7-6 (1), 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.
In the fourth round of the competition, Ajila Tomljanovic defeated Liudmilla Samsonova in straight sets. Tomljanovic played for two hours and eight set-points in the first set before converting her third to take the lead. This tenacity was what so badly deflated Samsonova that she saved the point in the second set quite quickly, giving Tomljanovic a 7-6 (8), 6-1 victory. As was previously mentioned, the Australian had previously eliminated Serena in the third round, which was likely one of the best victories of her career given the level of support her American opponent had.
Ons Jabeur and Ajla Tomljanovic are scheduled to face one another in the quarter-final of the US Open 2022 on Tuesday, September 6. The 2022 US Open is all set to begin from August 29 till September 11.
The 2022 US Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 29 and conclude on September 11 this year.
