It appears that the time has come for the new world no.2 Ons Jabeur as she will face Marie Bouzkova in the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon 2022 championship.
Ons Jabeur’s season has been outstanding thus far. She has two title under her belt and has won 34 of her 43 contests. The 27 year old won two titles at the German open and Madrid, as well as second-place finishes in Charleston and Rome. She has also been in the quarterfinals in Sydney and Dubai and has defeated many of the top WTA players. She defeated Mirjam Bjorklund 6-1, 6-3 to the win the opening round at Wimbledon. The Tunisian player won two more matches in straight sets, defeating Katarzyna Kawa (6-4, 6-0) and Diane Parry (6-2, 6-3), to go to the round 16. She next overcame Elise Mertens (7-6, 6-4) to go to the quarterfinals.
This season, Marie Bouzkova has prevailed in 18 of her 27 games. In February, she competed in the Abierto Zapopan in Guadalajara, where Sloane Stephens defeated her. In Madrid open she defeated Dayana Yastremska and Karolina Pliskova to advance to the round of 16, but was defeated by Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight-sets match. Bouzkova joined Wimbledon after losing in the first round of the Eastbourne Rothesay International. By defeating seventh seed Danielle Collins in the opening round, she pulled off an early upset. In order to advance to the round 16, Bouzkova had to defeat two more Americans player, Ann Li (6-0, 6-3) and Alison Riske (6-2, 6-3). She then defeated Carolina Garcia (7-5, 6-2) to get to her first Grand Slam quarterfinals. Jabeur and Bouzkova will face each other for the first time and it will be quite exciting to watch.
Jabeur and Bouzkova are scheduled to face each other on Tuesday, July 5 in the fourth round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championships is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There were a number of exciting matches on July 5 as the likes of Halep, Badosa, Anisimova and others will be in action.
