Third seed Ons Jabeur advanced to the second round of Wimbledon on Monday after defeating Mirjam Bjorklund in her first match. The score at the end of the match was 6-1, 6-3 in favour of the Tunisian. Jabeur hit a couple of aces in the match and had far superior win percentages on both first and second serves. On the first, it was 81% and on the second, it was 86%. She also converted four out of seven break points and won eight service games, four more than her opponent on the day.
Jabeur will face unseeded Polish player Katarzyna Kawa. Kawa beat Canada’s Rebecca Marino 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Marino hit six aces, three more than Kawa. However, the Pole had a higher win percentage on the first serve with 68%. On the second serve, Kawa’s win percentage fell to 50% but the Pole did win five out of 10 break points. The two won the same number of service games with 11 each.
Jabeur and Katarzyna are scheduled to face each other on Wednesday, June 29 in the second round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championships is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There were a number of exciting matches in the first round as the likes of Swiatek, Badosa, Williams, Gauff, Krejcikova and others will be in action.
