Hubert Hurkacz and Nick Kyrgios are scheduled to face one another in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Canadian Open on Friday, August 12.
Hubert Hurkacz fought back after losing the first set, saving a match point in the 10th game of the third, and eventually winning the deciding set tiebreak to defeat Spain’s Albert Ramos Vinolas and advance to the next round. Hurkacz out-aced the Spaniard by a score of 23-1. The Pole hit 58 winners to Ramos-Vinolas’ 23, but he also made 20 more unforced errors than the Spaniard. The World No. 10 won 77% of the points on his first delivery and saved three of five breakpoints. He had a perfect break point conversion rate, breaking the World No. 43 on all four occasions. He was also a quarterfinalist in Montreal last year, but he did not advance to the semifinals.
The color red Nick Kyrgios continued to shine at the Canadian Masters, winning his third consecutive match and extending his winning streak to nine matches. The Australian, who reached his first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, has only lost one grass court major final since the start of the season’s third major. Kyrgios won the Washington Open for the second time last week and has carried that momentum into Canada. After a straightforward 6-4, 6-4 first-round win over Sebastian Baez, he went on to defeat World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev in the second round.
Hubert Hurkacz and Nick Kyrgios are scheduled to face one another in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Canadian Open on Friday, August 12. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 8 till August 15.
