The Pole defeated the Argentine with ease, winning 6-2, 7-6, after serving 11 aces and reaching the semifinals of his previous competition in Metz (7-2). The seventh seed easily advanced to the following round by saving the lone break point he faced. The Polish player has a record of 36-17 for the year and will aim for a spot in the season’s eighth quarterfinal.
In Astana, Alexander Bublik defeated Tallon Griekspoor in three sets to go to the next round. With a thrashing of the Dutchman in the first set, the Kazakh got off to a terrific start. Griekspoor responded by earning the lone break of the second, but Bublik started to take control once more in the third. The Dutch player recovered one break after the Kazakh had raced to a 5-1 lead, but he was unable to recover the other, and the Kazakh won 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 in an hour and 38 minutes. The World No. 43, who this year won his first championship in Montpelier, has a 29-23 record so far.
