Marc-Andrea Huesler and Kamil Majchrzak are scheduled to face each other in the quarterfinals of the 2022 ATP Sofia Open September 30.
Marc-Andrea Huesler, who entered the tournament with a 5-8 season record on the tour, has improved to 7-8 and will look to improve even more over the next three days. The World No. 95 took the lone break in the first set to take the lead. But the Spaniard fought back in the second set, breaking for the first time in the eighth game and tying the match at one set apiece. Huesler missed four breakpoint opportunities in the second game of the final set, but he made amends in the sixth game, breaking Carreno Busta to love and then breaking again in the final game to win 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
After dropping the first set, Kamil Majchrzak came back to defeat Germany’s Oscar Otte and advance to his third tour-level quarterfinal of the season. In the first round, Majchrzak defeated Lithuania’s Ricardas Berankis 7-5, 6-2. On Thursday, the Pole maintained his lead. He got off to a slow start, losing the first set to World No. 55, but he came back strong in the second, outplaying the German with two breaks of serve. Both players held serve for the first nine games of the third set, but Majchrzak broke in the tenth to win the one-hour and 58-minute contest 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
