After suffering a terrible injury in the middle of the 2022 season that he knew would keep him out for months, Alexander Zverev has shared how he kept himself inspired and optimistic. The former World No. 2 made sure not to rush his recovery and understood the value of setting manageable milestones along the way, even if they were as simple as taking a few steps. Rafael Nadal and Zverev were in an intriguingly poised semifinal match at the French Open when Zverev slipped and broke his ankle moments before the second-set tiebreaker. The moment it occurred, it appeared serious, and Zverev was compelled to leave the stadium using crutches. Three ligaments in the German player’s right ankle were torn.

Extremely Happy

The 25-year-old recently discussed his recuperation and is now very close to competing again for the first time since June. Zverev emphasised the value of maintaining a positive outlook and the importance of setting small goals, saying that doing something as simple as walking for the first time since the injury made him “extremely happy.” According to Alexander Zverev in an interview with ISPO that was shared via Instagram stories, “I think it’s fun if you look at it the right way. Setting tiny goals for yourself can help you achieve your new task of returning to where you were. I was ecstatic when I took my first steps. I was over the moon when I ran for the first time. Things that I could always do. The German continued, “This is not an easy time.

Training at home

Mischa Zverev, a fellow professional tennis player and brother of Alexander Zverev, provided an update on his training regimen and ankle injury recuperation. According to Zverev, his brother has recently been training well, and the next step in his recuperation is to play as many competitive games as he can before the 2023 season. He clarified why playing practise sets won’t be enough and offered another explanation for why Alexander Zverev decided to compete in the Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah Tennis Cup.

Home training sessions with no spectators are just different. So, to feel the adrenaline again, you need to be on the field, playing against a top player, with ball boys and referees, Mischa explained in a recent interview with Eurosport. He only needs a few games left before the important season. He hasn’t been able to participate in any games since the fantastic match against Nadal. We registered for a few exhibition tournaments because of this, he continued. After his bizarre injury at the French Open, Zverev quickly rose to No. 2 in the rankings, but after a lengthy hiatus, he finished the season at No. 12 in the ATP rankings.
