In the opening round of the 2022 WTA Canadian Open on Monday, world number 16 Simona Halep will face lucky loser and 86th-ranked Donna Vekic.
Halep didn’t play well against Anna Kalinskaya in the second round of the Washington Open, and with a set deficit, she decided to quit. That problem, though, appeared to be trivial given that Halep will be back in a week to play in her Rogers Cup debut. The former world number one, who advanced to the semifinals at Wimbledon and Bad Homburg, will try to continue her current success. Simona Halep has a 32-10 record for the season, which places her in 13th place for the Race to Finals, despite the disappointment of not making it to the end at Wimbledon. She might also be able to enter the top eight with a few strong performances on the tour. Can she secure a convincing victory to get things going here?
Due to Shelby Rogers‘ withdrawal, who had advanced to the final the previous week but had run out of gas to compete in this event, Donna Vekic has advanced to the main draw. Vekic, who had lost her second qualifying match, so made it into the first round here, but she now faces a formidable challenge in defeating a Halep in good form. Vekic’s days as a top-20 player are currently well behind her, and she hasn’t quite been the same player on the court in a while. This was demonstrated by the fact that she lost to Asia Muhammad in the qualifiers despite being the 2/5 favourite to win the match.
Beatriz Haddad Maia and Martina Trevisan are scheduled to face one another in the round of 64 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Monday, August 8. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 8 till August 15.
The 2022 edition of the Canadian Open is set to begin from August 8 and go on until August 15. The men’s final is scheduled to be on August 15 and the women’s one is set to be held on August 14. There will be six rounds of play in the main draw excluding the qualifiers.
