This season’s Davis Cup has certainly not been one to remember for Great Britain. The group stage has seen the Brits lose both of their matches against the United States of America and The Netherlands respectively. Daniel Evans got the team off to a good start against the Dutch when he beat Tallon Griekspoor 6-4, 6-4 but things quickly took a turn for the worse. The shock of the night came in the second singles match where Botic van de Zandshculp got the better of Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-2. The doubles team of Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury also failed to get a positive result as they fell to Wesley Koolhof and Matwe Middelkoop 7-6 (7-0), 6-7 (6-8), 3-6.
Much like Great Britain, Kazakhstan’s 2022 Davis Cup campaign has come to an end after two successive defeats in the group stage. Their last match was against the United States of America which they lost 2-1. Mikhail Kukushkin lost to Tommy Paul 1-6, 4-6 in the first match of the tie. Alexander Bublik was next in action against Taylor Fritz and was beaten 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 3-6.
Great Britain and Kazakhstan are set to face each other in a Group D match on Sunday, September 18 in the 2022 Davis Cup. The group stage of the competition is scheduled to begin on September 13 and conclude on September 18 this year.
