Fifth-seeded qualifier Viktorija Golubic is just one win away from being confirmed for the main draw of the 2022 US Open. The final obstacle in her path is Australian-Indian tennis player Astra Sharma. Golubic emerged victorious against Kimberly Birrell in her second qualifying match by a score of 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. The Swiss smashed one ace and converted seven out of 11 break points in the match. She also recorded win percentages of 5% and 56% on the first and second serves respectively. Her next opponent, Sharma has been on a decent run of form of late.
The Aussie defeated 30th-seeded qualifier Reka Luca Jani in her second qualifying match by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. Sharma recorded seven aces and converted eight out of 19 break points in the match to seal the deal. She also recorded win percentages of 47% and 70% on the first and second serves respectively.
Viktorija Golubic are Astra Sharma scheduled to face one another in their third qualifying match on Friday, August 26 at 9:45 pm IST.
