Coco Gauff and Daria Kasatkina will face each other on Friday, November 4 in the group stage of the 2022 WTA Finals.
Coco Gauff and Daria Kasatkina will compete in the WTA Finals round-robin stage. Gauff’s first group stage match was against Caroline Garcia. The teenager took the lead in the first game of the match, securing a break of serve. However, she gave up her lead in the following game, resulting in a 1-1 tie. Both players held their serves well over the next few games, but Gauff faltered in the end, getting broken at 5-4 to drop the first set. The American fell behind 3-1 in the second set, but recovered to make it 3-2. Garcia, on the other hand, managed to secure another break of serve to go up 4-2. This proved to be Gauff’s undoing, as she was unable to claw her way back into the match, which Garcia won 6-4, 6-3.
In her first group tie, Kasatkina faced a familiar foe in Iga Swiatek. The Russian trailed 3-0 after an early break. In the next game, she came dangerously close to losing serve, but she managed to eke out a hold to make it 3-1. Kasatkina, however, was unable to deal with Swiatek’s style of tennis and dropped serve once more to lose the first set. She fell behind 3-0 in the second set and was unable to recover as the World No. 1 defeated her 6-2, 6-3. This was the Russian’s fifth straight loss to Swiatek this season, all in straight sets.
