Coco Gauff and Elisabetta Cocciaretto are scheduled to face each other in the second round of the 2022 WTA Guadalajara Open on October 19.
Coco Gauff, a French Open finalist this year, will begin her Guadalajara campaign in the second round on Wednesday. The 18-year-old has had an outstanding season, going 36-18 in the regular season. Gauff has been very consistent this year, and her recent form has been quite good as well. She has reached the quarterfinals of four of the last five tournaments, including her first-ever appearance in the last eight at the US Open. She competed in the San Diego Open last week, winning the first two rounds but losing to Iga Swiatek in the last eight stage. Swiatek also denied Gauff her first Grand Slam title, defeating her in the final of Roland Garros earlier this year.
Elisabetta Cocciaretto of Italy dominated Transylvania Open semifinalist Anastasia Potapova in the first round on Tuesday. Cocciaretto, ranked 92 in the world, advanced to the main draw via the qualifying rounds. Cocciaretto dropped serve in the first game of the match, but she quickly recovered, breaking the Russian three times to take the first set. She continued to dominate in the second set, racing to a 5-0 lead before holding a serve to avoid being bageled. Cocciaretto won the next game 6-2, 6-1 to complete the match. She is 39-20 on the season and 7-8 on the tour. She is a better player on clay but has little experience playing on hard.
