Dalma Galfi and Maryna Zanevska will take on each other in the second round of the 2022 WTA Emilia-Romagna Open September 28.
Dalma Galfi easily defeated Russian qualifier Erika Andreev in the first round. The Hungarian needed only an hour and 13 minutes to win 6-1, 6-2 and advance to the next round. In the match, Andreev had four break points, but Galfi saved all of them. In contrast, the World No. 91 had seven chances to break the Russian’s serve, and she converted five of them. Galfi, 24, who reached the third round of the US Open, will be aiming for his first tour-level quarterfinal of the season. This year, she reached her first WTA 125 final, finishing runner-up at the Contrexéville Open, and she won an ITF title in Ilkley.
Lucia Bronzetti, the eighth seed and local hope, was defeated in an hour and 23 minutes by Maryna Zanevska. The 29-year-old Belgian, who reached the semifinals of the Bucharest Challenger two weeks ago, has continued to excel on clay. In the first set, she dominated, breaking the Italian four times while being broken twice. Bronzetti broke first in the second set to take a 1-2 lead, but Zanevska rallied and won the final five games of the set and match to win 6-3, 6-2. With the victory, the Belgian improves to 18-18 on the season and will look to reach her third tour-level quarterfinal on Wednesday. Zanevska reached the quarterfinals in Strasbourg and the semifinals in Hamburg.
