The 2022 Canadian Open's opening round will feature Taylor Fritz, the 13th-ranked player in the world, taking on Andy Murray, the three-time Grand Slam champion.
Taylor Fritz has so far put together a great season. He made his maiden appearance in the fourth round of a Grand Slam at the Australian Open, when he was defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas in five sets. He later advanced to the Dallas Open quarterfinals. After that, Fritz lost in the second round of the Mexican Open. He bounced back by winning the Indian Wells Open, the biggest championship of his career. Rafael Nadal‘s 20-match winning streak was ended by the American, who defeated him in the championship match. Later, he had a defeat in the Miami Open’s fourth round. Fritz had to play a shorter clay season due to an injury, and he finished it off by losing in the second round of the French Open. The 24-year-old improved upon his previous Grand Slam showing by making it to Wimbledon’s quarterfinals before losing to Nadal in a nail-biting five-set match. Fritz recently competed at the Citi Open, but the heat and humidity combined with his lack of fitness forced him to leave his match in the third round.
Andy Murray lost in the opening round of the Melbourne Summer Set to begin the year. He showed no signs of being affected by the setback by placing second at the Sydney Tennis Classic the following week. In the second round of the Australian Open, Taro Daniel shocked the British player. Murray then failed to advance past the second round in any of his following five competitions. At the Madrid Open, when he advanced to the third round, he accomplished so at last. Unfortunately, he had to withdraw from the competition owing to a health issue. The previous World No. 1 then immediately entered the grasscourt swing. In his first competition, Murray advanced to the semifinals of a Challenger event. The following week in the Stuttgart Open, he lost to Matteo Berrettini in his second final of the year. In Wimbledon‘s second round, John Isner defeated him and eliminated him. Murray’s most recent match was the Citi Open. In the first round itself, Mikael Ymer eliminated him by winning in three sets.
Taylor Fritz and Andy Murray will face each other in the opening round of the 2022 Canadian open on Monday, August 8. The ATP 1000 competition is scheduled to start from August 8 and end on August 14 this year.
