The American will face five-time winner Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. The match was held until the fourth set when Fritz, a fellow tournament debutant, Auger-Aliassime missed a backhand. Fritz then broke twice in the next three games, either side of holding to love, securing his place in the next round. Fritz has previously faced Djokovic five times, but it has been over a year since their last meeting, and the American has undergone a complete transformation as a player this year after cracking the top ten, winning the Indian Wells Masters, and making his first Grand Slam quarterfinal. The ATP Tour season of Auger-career-best Aliassime, 22, was over after the 22-year-old won four titles, including three in three weeks. Together with Fritz, he also made his top-10 and ATP Finals debuts. The following week at the Davis Cup Finals, he will still be competing for Canada.
